How to insure your phone in Nigeria

A phone is the easiest thing to lose and one of the most expensive to replace. Here is how to cover yours in minutes.

Your phone goes everywhere with you, which is exactly why it gets dropped, stolen and soaked. Replacing a flagship handset can cost several hundred thousand naira, so cover is worth having.

What cover a phone needs

A phone is a portable electronic device, so the right class is all-risks portable electronics, not a household policy tied to one address. All-risks follows the item wherever it goes: at home, in traffic, or abroad. That matters, because a phone stolen at a bus stop is not covered by a policy that only protects your house.

What you need before you start

  • The make, model and storage size
  • Its real replacement cost today, not what you paid two years ago
  • A receipt or a photo of the phone showing the IMEI, if you have one

Insure it in three steps

  1. Log it. Tell Cova "insure my iPhone 15, worth about 900,000" and it adds the phone to your VaultLog.
  2. Answer a few questions. Cova asks only what the underwriter needs, usually how you use it and whether it has been repaired.
  3. Pay and you are covered. You get a certificate straight away, and your claim, if you ever file one, is measured against the value you logged.

Keep your proof

A photo of the phone and its receipt, stored in your vault, is what turns "it was stolen" into a paid claim. Log it the day you buy it.
